Kitchen Waste and Municipal Solid Waste-Separate Collection and Waste to Eco-energy

How to dispose municipal solid waste and kitchen waste? This has become a matter of high concern as economy, society, and cities develop. MSW and kitchen waste that surround us are major threats to sustainable development. As landfills in many cities are nearly filled up and establishment of new incineration plants faces more stringent requirement. Is there a third way out for reducing MSW and kitchen waste?
The Implementation Plan of the Municipal Solid Waste Separate Collection System issued by China’s National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) and Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development requires waste sorting in 46 cities in China and sets out that the recycling rate of MSW should reach more than 35% by 2020. How to dispose the separated waste? What are the technologies that are more suitable for China which can hardly realize thorough sorting?
Problems in waste treatment that China faces are exactly the ones appear in Germany thirty years ago. That’s why we shall learn from the Germany measures and technological solutions.

1. Introduction to the EMBT Process
EMBT process is based on the principle that the sorted MSW and kitchen waste are mixtures of organics and combustibles. Through bio-hydrolysis, the organic matters that are bio-degradable are dissolved and acidified. The organic slurry and combustibles are then separated through the extruding dehydration process.
The slurry goes through anaerobic digestion and produces biogas used as bio-energy. The separated solid matters become high calorie fuel with moisture content of 40% and lower calorific value of 1600-2000kcal/kg. The calorific value can reach 3000-4000kcal/kg after bio-drying which reduces the moisture content to 10%, turning the materials into RDF fuel suitable to be used in cement kilns, power plants, and other industrial kilns, or used as energy through incineration or pyrolysis gasification.

Bio-hydrolysis+Bio-drying+Industrial kilns (thermal power plant)

2.PVC and other chlorides are removed by sorting, enhancing the quality of RDF products.
3.Sorting is done according to different requirement of industrial kilns and produces RDF of different types and classes.
